At this year’s Benzinga Psychedelics Capital Conference, firm partner Nadav Aschner spoke on the current legal intricacies of psychedelics at the “Oregon, Colorado, Quebec: Lessons from legal psilocybin markets” panel. Beginning with the regulatory strategies employed by psychedelics on their path towards legal acceptance, the group noted the similarities to that of the early days of cannabis legalization. While it currently exists in a legal grey area, the discussion touches upon the current and upcoming potential for legislation that will open up psychedelic medicine into a fully realized industry.
Although decriminalization may improve overall access, the trio also assess the need for social impact components in future lawmaking decisions on psychedelic substances. Joining Nadav on the panel was Zappy Zapolin, Chief Visionary Officer of Psycheceutical, and Program Director of Chacruna’s Indigenous Reciprocity Initiative, Joseph Mays.
